The Rookie Season 6 is an awaited season of the police procedural crime drama series created by Alexi Hawley for the ABC network.
First episode of the series premiered on 16 October 2018 and since that time, four seasons have been released while a season 5 is currently airing on the ABC Channel with new episodes coming out on Tuesdays every week.
Since the season five is coming to an end, fans have started hunting for a potential sixth season. Let’s find out whether there will be another season of the Rookie or not.
Will there be a season 6 of The Rookie?
The sixth season of the show “The Rookie” is not yet officially announced by the original network yet but numerous sources have indicated the show will be renewed for another season. Some fans are even speculating that The Rookie season 6 will come out in early 2024.
Fans can expect the return of stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, and Titus Makin Jr., as well as new cast members Grey Damon and Eric Winter.
There is no official word yet on the plot of the Rookie season 6 but we are expecting more of the same crime-fighting action that we have have seen so far in the previous seasons.
When is The Rookie season 6 coming out?
Season 1 of the crime drama series was ordered by ABC in 2017, that took a complete year to begin airinig in October 2018. Then, a second season was ordered right after the premiere of season 1 finale episode in Oct 2019.
The series was renewed for a third season in May 2020 and that became so popular that the series was ordered in the same for a fourth season that premiered on Sep 2021. On March 2022, the series was renewed for a fifth season that is currently airing on ABC.
We are expecting The Rookie to receive a renewal in June 2023 and if that happens then The Rookie season 6 is expected to release around Feb 2024. The average episode count was 20 until the third season when it reduced to 14 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
To keep the balance, season 4 and 5 were having 22 episodes and that’s why the same number of episodes are expected to release in the upcoming season of The Rookie to cover the remaining two episodes that were left in season three.
Was rookie Cancelled?
No, The Rookie hasn’t cancelled yet in March 2023 unlike the sequel seasons of two most popular Showtime shows, Let The Right One In and Dexter New Blood.
When Let the Right One In was cancelled due to low ratings and falling viewership, Dexter: New Blood was cancelled due to creative differences between producers and the network.
Neither the ratings of The Rookie have fallen nor its viewership and that’s why the network has chosen not to cancel the series. At least, it hasn’t cancelled for now.
Who will return in The Rookie Season 6?
Since the show is incomplete without the main character, we are expecting the return of Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie officer at LAPD who is determined to become an excellent police officer despite his old age.
Other than Fillion, Angela Lopez is another leading character of the series played by Alyssa Diaz. She is a highly capable and ambitious officer who is assigned as the trainer to Officer Nolan.
Since Tim Bradford’s character Eric Winter was found dead in the season 5, he is not likely to come back. The main cast members that are expected to make their comeback in The Rookie season 6 includes:

- Mercedes Mason as Zoe Andersen
- Titus Makin Jr. as Jackson West
- Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen
Moreover, the show has cast several recurring guest stars who may return in season 6 as Mercy Malick, Jonathan Kite, Alex Russell, and Leticia Jimenez. Some new cast members are also expected to make their debut in the new season.
Is there a trailer for season 6 of Rookie?
Yes, ABC has released a trailer for the upcoming sixth season of The Rookie but the video isn’t availalble anymore. It maybe because they want to keep the suspense behind the ropes until the ending of season 5.
What to expect from The Rookie season 6?
The fifth season of The Rookie ended with a dramatic cliffhanger that left viewers wondering what would happen next. After Sergeant Grey was shot in the line of duty, Officer Chen and Winter made the difficult decision to have her placed in a medically-induced coma in order to save her life.
At the same time, Officer Lopez was revealed to be a mole within the LAPD, and she was arrested. Moreover, Sergeant Eric was found dead in the finale episode while officer Chen was left in a state of uncertainty as he faced an uncertain future along with the other members of department.
The Rookie season 6 will be about some new recruited officers and most likely, it will be the finale season because a lot of lead characters have already been finished.
The responsibility of the whole department is kept on John Nolan and it will be interesting to see how he manages the other rookie officers. What do you think will happen now?
