When and Where was The Witcher Blood Origin filmed?

Netflix’s European series are getting popular nowadays and one such name is The Witcher Blood Origin which is an adaptation of a fantasy novel series written by Polish author Andrez Sapkowski.

Blood Origin serves as a prequel to The Witcher and give us a glimpse to the events that happened way before (approx 1200 years) the appearance of Witcher all around the globe. It also introduces us to the first witcher and explores the oldest civilization before its extinction.

Even though, the series is fictional and is far from the real world, the shooting locations look surreal and nostalgic. Let’s see the exact places where the movie was filmed.

The Witcher Blood Origin Filming Locations

Principal filming of The Witcher: Blood Origin began in early August 2021 inside Iceland and wrapped on 21 November 2021 inside the United Kingdom. The series creator Declan De Bara informed on Twitter that the six part limited series has been wrapped.

Iceland

Nauthúsagil waterfall of South Iceland was the first place where the shooting began. Then, the production team moved to a Viking village (Stokksnes) located under the Vestrahorn Mountain. The village was designed as a movie set in 2010 to shoot an Icelandic film about Vikings that was never filmed actually.

So, the beautiful village of Stokksnes was declared as a tourist place where attraction and now, the same Vikings village is used as the originating place of the Witcher in the series.

The place required some preparations and that’s why the crew members prepared the set well before opening their camera shutters like swords and arrows.

Vestrahorn Mountain range is the place where the last member of sword elves tribe can be seen for the first time. The range is stunning and the larger landscapes near Eyjafjallajökull volcano are covered with a thick layer of moss known as Eldhraun.

England, United Kingdom

Some part of the Thórsmörk valley was used for the taping second episode and the final episode was also filmed Then, we have the third episode that features Elie and her army attacking on the beast was filmed at Ilkley Moor Walk, Yorkshire.

The rest of the filming took place in Arborfield Film Studios located at Langley Common Rd, Barkham, Wokingham, United Kingdom. This is the same studio that serves as a major shooting location for The Witcher and season 2 of The Empress, another popular historic series of Netflix.

The award winning actress from Everything Everywhere All At Once is starring in one of the most prominent role of Scian in the Witcher Blood Origin.

She is the last member of sword elves nomadic tribe who is on the mission of getting the stolen blade back which was taken away from her people years ago in The Witcher Blood Origin.

Sophia Brown is a British actress who is starring as Eile in the series. Her role is of a Queen’s guard warrior who leaves the kingdom to become a travelling musician.

Laurence O’Fuarain is in the role of another lead cast as Fjall. He is an elf born in warriors clan but is rebelling against his king.

Her back story is tragic as her whole tribe was anhilated by humans for their own benefits and she’s the only hope for other magical beings. If the series gets a second season like The Old Man series is confirmed made then we will see the expansion of Witchers with some new characters.
